Why is walking outside so great for us?

  • Increases mobility

  • Reduces stress and anxiety

  • Clears the mind

  • Grounding

Try the suggested prompts below to make your own ten-minute walking meditation.

Make sure you are properly geared up for your walk with proper walking shoes and additional protection if needed like coats/gloves, hats etc. and that you have outlined a clear, safe path to walk.

Release yourself from all distractions by silencing notifications on your phone or watch and consider pressing pause on any music or podcasts.

As you begin your walk take a few cleansing breaths to help clear your mind. Inhaling deeply through the nose and exhaling slowly through the mouth.

Begin to shift your mind to notice the experience of walking like what each step sounds like and how your muscles are moving. If you become aware of any areas of stiffness or tension, allow your mind to relax those areas.

Become aware of the sounds around you.

Do you hear any sounds of Mother Nature?

The wind, birds, leaves crushing beneath your feet or trickling water?

Allow your mind to soften and bring focus back to your breath. Take a deep breath in and exhale slowly.

Take notice of how you feel as you complete your walk.

Take a warm bath after your walk for further grounding and to help ease any sore muscles.
