TS-PRO: NON-COMEDOGENIC? WHAT DOES IT MEAN

At Thara Sacra, we understand how challenging it can be to find effective skincare solutions that work on a variety of clients and don’t clog pores. One term that has likely come up in your search for non-clogging products is "non-comedogenic". But what exactly does this term mean, and why is it essential for the skin's health and appearance?

When it comes to skincare, the terms comedogenic and non-comedogenic are frequently used to describe how likely a particular ingredient or product is to cause acne or clog pores.

Comedogenic ingredients are those that have a higher likelihood of clogging pores and causing acne breakouts. This is because these ingredients can mix with the natural oils produced by the skin, creating a mixture that can clog pores and lead to breakouts.

In contrast, non-comedogenic ingredients are less likely to cause acne and are generally considered safer for use in skincare products.

The term "comedogenic" comes from the word "comedo," which is a type of pimple or blackhead. Its used describe substances that can clog pores and contribute to the development of acne.

The comedogenic rating scale was created as a way to measure a substance's ability to cause comedones, or clogged pores. It ranges from 0-5, with 0 being non-comedogenic and 5 being highly comedogenic. Oils with a lower rating are less likely to cause breakouts and are considered safe for acne-prone skin.

The importance of using non-comedogenic skincare products cannot be overstated. Acne and breakouts can be frustrating and uncomfortable, and using products that contain comedogenic ingredients can exacerbate these issues. By using non-comedogenic skincare products, you can help to prevent breakouts and keep your client’s skin clear and healthy.

In addition, non-comedogenic products can also be less irritating to the skin, making them a great choice for those with sensitive skin as well. However, anyone can benefit from using non-comedogenic products as they promote healthy skin and reduce the risk of clogged pores.

Here are five examples of non-comedogenic oils that we use and why we love them:

  1. Jojoba Oil - With a rating of 0, Jojoba oil is one of the most commonly used non-comedogenic oils in skincare. It closely mimics the skin's natural sebum, making it an effective moisturizer that won't clog pores.
