TS-PRO: IS ORGANIC REALLY BETTER (AND WHAT DOES WILDCRAFTED MEAN?)
Let’s start with what is organic and does that make it better than non-organic or conventional?
Conventionally sourced ingredients can can be made using a wide range of synthetic chemicals and additives that are not used in organic ingredients. Examples of these could be synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and surfactants, which can be harsh and irritating to the skin.
Organic ingredients are those that are made from natural and organic sources. These ingredients are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or other harmful chemicals. This means that they should be free from harsh chemicals that can damage the skin and cause health problems.
To be certified organic, skincare ingredients and products must meet certain standards set by government agencies and industry organizations. These standards can vary depending on the country or region, but they generally require that at least 95% of the ingredients used in the product are certified organic.
One of the biggest advantages of using organic ingredients is that they are gentle and safe for all skin types. They are also better for the environment as they are made without the use of harmful chemicals that can pollute the soil, air, and water. Additionally, many people find that organic skincare products are more effective than their non-organic counterparts.
However, it is important to note that not all organic skincare products are created equal. Some products may claim to be organic but still contain synthetic ingredients or chemicals that are not good for the skin. It's important to read the labels carefully and do your research to ensure that the products you are using are truly organic and safe.
And it’s also important not to get caught up in the “chemicals are bad’ debate. All skincare products contain chemicals, as everything in the world is made up of chemicals. Even natural ingredients contain chemicals, such as water (H2O), vitamins, and minerals. The important thing to consider is whether the chemicals in skincare products are safe and beneficial for the skin.
What is the difference between organic and wildcrafted?
Organic skincare products are made from ingredients that are grown using organic farming methods, without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or other harmful chemicals. This means that they are grown in a controlled environment, usually on a farm, and are subject to strict standards for their cultivation and production.
On the other hand, wildcrafted skincare products are made from ingredients that are harvested from the wild, rather than being grown on a farm. This means that the ingredients are gathered from their natural habitat, such as forests or meadows, and are not subject to the same controlled environment as organic ingredients.
Wildcrafted ingredients are often considered to be more potent and effective than their farmed counterparts, as they have adapted to their natural environment and developed unique properties that can benefit the skin. However, they can also be more difficult to source and may be subject to issues related to sustainability and overharvesting.
In general, both organic and wildcrafted skincare products can be a good choice for those who want to use natural and sustainable skincare products. However, it's important to choose products that are sourced responsibly and that prioritize the health of both the skin and the environment.
Which is the better choice?
The choice between conventional, organic, or wildcrafted skincare products ultimately depends on your personal preferences and values. Each type of skincare product has its own benefits and drawbacks, and it's important to consider these factors when choosing which products to use.
Conventional skincare products are often less expensive and more widely available than organic or wildcrafted products. However, they may contain synthetic chemicals that can be harmful to the skin and the environment.
Organic skincare products are made from natural and organic ingredients that are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or other harmful chemicals. They are often gentler on the skin and are less likely to cause irritation or negative effects. However, they can be more expensive than conventional skincare products and may be less widely available.
Wildcrafted skincare products are made from ingredients that are harvested from the wild, rather than being grown on a farm. These ingredients are often considered to be more potent and effective than their farmed counterparts. However, they can be more difficult to source and may be subject to issues related to sustainability and overharvesting.
Ultimately, the choice between conventional, organic, or wildcrafted skincare products depends on your personal values and priorities. If you prioritize affordability and accessibility, conventional skincare products may be a better choice. If you prioritize natural and organic ingredients, organic skincare products may be a better choice. And if you prioritize potency and effectiveness, wildcrafted skincare products may be a better choice.
What type of ingredients do we choose at Thara Sacra?
At Thara Sacra we tend to lean towards choosing certified organic ingredients for our products because we know they have been carefully reviewed to ensure they meet specific standards and use sustainable production methods.
While we also love wildcrafted sources, sustainability and overharvesting are important key concerns for us, so when we do choose a wildcrafted source we carefully review them to ensure they have ethical practices related to these concerns.
When we choose conventional ingredients we are careful to research the company and that the products don’t contain contain ingredients that are derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or that have been treated with pesticides or other harmful chemicals.
As a general rule we always read the ingredient list carefully, review the cultivation methods, and look for certifications from reputable organizations to ensure that the ingredients we are using are safe and beneficial for the skin.
