TS-PRO: 2023 WELLNESS TRENDS WE LOVE

We spent the last few weeks reviewing wellness and spa trends from across the globe, and what we are seeing and hearing is the pandemic has greatly shifted how we view wellness—not only individually, but collectively as a whole. Wellness is even more important than ever, and people are shifting towards wanting to make more educated, intentional, conscious decisions.

Here are some of our favorites and how we think you can incorporate small shifts in your business to meet this new wellness customer’s needs:

Personalized Experiences – According to Forbes and American Spa, customers are looking for more personalized options when it comes to their wellness and self-care. Think customized treatments and ways to make their visit more catered to their individual needs. Considering offering a choice of aromatherapy for their visit or offering add-ons like a scalp massage or foot massage. We also love the idea of sending them home with kits or samples they can use on their own. Keep in mind this customer wants personalization, but they are also concerned about the collective whole. Curate experiences that are personalized, real, and meaningful. Explaining the products you use on them and even suggesting impacts to the earth, and the collective will be important.

Mind + Skin Connection – We wrote a bit about this in a recent blog here. Advances in science and knowledge of the mind-body connection has made us more aware of how our emotional state and stress impact all facets of our wellness, including the condition and appearance of our skin. Additionally, the skin is our largest organ and often can reflect what is going on in the inside. Well + Good’s 2023 Wellness Trend feature highlights the surge in skincare brands focusing on our mental and emotional health. This subject is near and dear to our Founder’s heart because it is the basis for the creation of Thara Sacra. She learned early on the importance of linking mental wellness with skin wellness in her own healing journey and set out to create products and rituals that linked the two. Incorporate this link into your offerings by highlighting the importance of wellness treatments that link the two. For example, our Transcend Scalp Ritual is not only wonderfully nourishing for the scalp and hair, but the aromatic formula and the ritual itself also help calm and ease stressful feelings and emotions. Consider educating your clients on this link and supporting them with ways they can incorporate these principles into their daily rituals between visits. We love the idea of a stress-relieving facial that incorporates our Chakra Oils and massage rituals to soothe the mind and skin.

Social Experiences – One of the 12 trends the Global Wellness Summit Report says will be shaping wellness epidemic is the need for social connection and community. The pandemic shifted us all inside and inward, and loneliness has become the new wellness crisis. While digital wellness will still be a part of the scene, we are looking and longing for real human connections. This means more spa visits, but we also recommend coordinating with other wellness professionals to curate wellness experiences. We’ve been inspired by local wellness businesses like The Schvitz in Detroit, MI who hosts wellness professionals for weekly pop-ups at their bathhouse. It’s a way to support that community need for social experience while also helping local business meet new clients and expand their business. Look for local businesses in your area you could meet up with that share similar values and see what ideas you come up with. At a minimum, it will support your social wellness.

Hair Loss Gets Real – Once a taboo topic, hair loss has moved front and center. Social media apps are filled with viral trends on the latest hair loss solution. Many of us are talking and looking for support. Based on this, Well + Good shares that we will see in an increase in products and solutions hitting the market. Whether it’s due to the increase in Covid and stress related hair thinning, consumers are looking for real solutions that work. We can expect more and more clients coming in seeking solutions for their hair loss. Offering add-ons like a Scalp Massage, while explaining the benefits of carrying trusted products you know work, is a great way to support your client’s needs and grow your business. Of course, we recommend offering and using our Transcend Scalp Balm because of its nourishing and stimulating ingredients that support different hair loss conditions.

Spiritual Well-being – One theme we are seeing touched on everywhere is the rise in spirituality being a part of wellness. See this collectively in the rise of the importance of religious freedom and the desire to have a feeling of connection to oneself and something greater. In the spa wellness space, Spaseekers.com is reporting on a 91% rise in crystal healing massages while American Spa is highlighting the greater importance on the mind-body-spirt connection we will see. A few ways to incorporate spiritual wellness into your offerings is by including meditative moments throughout the treatments and using tools like crystals or aromatherapy to help your client link into that mind-spirit space. One of our Founder’s favorite rituals involves the use of our Ground Foot & Body Oil prior to meditating in the evening. The combination of grounding aromatics with the act of massage help clear the mind for a deeper connection to spirit. We also love the idea of starting a facial or massage with a grounding foot soak and meditative music. Like wafting incense before a prayer, or reciting a chant, it shifts one into a spiritually protected space.  Our Ground Pillow Spray is a wonderful way to create a similar vibe.

Eastern Influence – We continue to see a surge in Eastern influenced products and techniques in wellness space. Just look at the popularity of Gua Sha and K-Beauty solutions that have exploded in just the last year. American Spa agrees listing it as one of their “Top 5 Day Spa Trends” in their 2023 trend report. And while they say “less essential oil remedies” we think you can combine both with products like ours that use Eastern energetic principles from the Chakra System and Ayurveda. Important here will be ensuring you are appreciating and not appropriating when using these techniques. From the Global Wellness Summit Report section on wellness and travel, we learned that consumers are looking for their wellness knowledge from the source. Ensure you are learning the techniques from reputable sources that respect the linages and where these products and techniques originate from. We’d be crazy not to mention our Transcend Scalp Ritual here again. Our beautiful Green Sandalwood Comb was ahead of the curve on this one as we’ve seen an explosion of scalp comb rituals hitting the market in the past few months.

Bonus trend that just made us smile:

New Ingredient - It’s not new to us but Skin Inc. and Voyant Beauty are predicting Mamey Sapote oil will emerge as a star ingredient this year. This oil is cold pressed from the seeds of an evergreen tree native to Mexico, Guatemala, and Central America. Rich in vitamins A & C, this oil is light and non-greasy. It is wonderful for balancing the scalp, improving shine, and soothing inflammation. We put this star ingredient into our Transcend Scalp Balm for its many scalp and hair benefits and is one of the reasons why our balm is so great at soothing scalp conditions that cause dry flakes, inflammation, and hair loss.

We hope you enjoyed our roundup! Pop us a comment below with your thoughts on trends you are seeing and incorporating into your business this year. Oh, and if there was one product we’d recommend that ticks several of the latest trends boxes it would be our Transcend Scalp Ritual 😉
